In the third semester of Interior Design & Styling, Studio Walnoot has undertaken a project for the Cultural Neighborhood Center SWA. Studio Walnoot comprises Anike Keurentjes - Oosterling, Anne Hendriks, Emily de Valk, Jamie Scheenhart, Leann te Brake, Lenne Rovers, and Lotte Klerkx.

The design question posed is as follows:
How can the design of the cultural neighborhood center contribute to better meeting the needs of young people with mental health issues, enabling their development within society?

Our objective is to craft an environment where these young individuals can actively engage in cultural pursuits, embrace their identities, and undergo personal growth. Through tailored programs, collaboration with care institutions, and innovative solutions, our aim is to positively influence the development and well-being of these youths and integrate them into broader society.

Our mission is to establish a cultural neighborhood center that offers a secure haven, specifically catered to the requirements of young people grappling with mental health challenges in today's society.

Conceptual Image

The concept will be seamlessly woven into the design of the cultural neighborhood center, with a primary focus on the mental well-being of its visitors, particularly the youth. There will be a deliberate equilibrium between productivity and relaxation. The diverse range of activities offered within the cultural neighborhood center will form a cohesive and dynamic whole, positively impacting the core of the visitors, leading to personal development. The aim is to provide an experience for the youth where they are pleasantly surprised by the safety and accessibility of the building. This will be achieved by crafting an immersive experience that fosters a strong connection with the cultural neighborhood center, encouraging regular visits to uphold their mental health. Consequently, there will be a sense of appreciation and acknowledgment from the visitors.
